Facilities at the Cottage

Facilities at the cottage for cavers and climbers include:

  • hooks for hanging/ drying equipment and protective clothing both in the stone shed and outside
  • external tap
  • hosepipe

Local information and advice for cavers and climbers, along with equipment for sale, can be sourced in the village itself.

Caving equipment can be hired in the village.

Local instructors can take you out climbing, caving and abseiling in the local area.

Paragliding is also possible on the hills surrounding the village.

Climbing

Ingleton and the local area is surrounded by hills and mountains just waiting for you to climb.

Malham Cove is a short drive away. 

A climbing wall is situated in the village.

 

There is an abundance of caves within the local area

Everything is within easy reach, from show caves with guided tours for families and tourists to visit (see things to do), to caves which can only be accessed if you are a member of a caving club.

 

Gaping Gill

A couple of times a year, Gaping Gill in Ingleborough is opened up for the public. You cannot book in advance if you wish to expereince the winch descent into this remarkable cave. Bradford Pothole Club manage the opening over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May and at the end of August it is managed by Craven Pothole Club.

Gaping Gill is the largest cavern in Britain, floodlit so that you can see the fantastic views. For more information see the Bradford Pothole Club website
